East End Lions Host Ports Authority in Premier League Opener
East End Lions will begin their league campaign against eastern rivals Ports Authority FC at the Trade Centre Arena on Sunday evening.
The Killers will be looking to bounce back from their defeat by Bo Rangers in the Unity Cup as they prepare to face a Ports Authority side that proved difficult to beat last season.
The fixture will also mark Lions’ return to the Trade Centre Arena for the first time since the stadium underwent renovations about two years ago.
A large crowd is expected at the venue, which has traditionally served as the home ground of East End Lions, one of Sierra Leone’s oldest football clubs. Founded in 1928, the club is among the country’s most successful sides, alongside rivals Mighty Blackpool.
However, Ports Authority, popularly known as the Water Front Boys, have often proved a tough opponent for the Killers.
Lions failed to beat their eastern rivals in the Leone Rock Premier League last season, with both meetings ending in goalless draws.
Sunday’s encounter therefore presents Lions with an opportunity to start the new league campaign on a positive note while seeking to overcome a side that has frustrated them in recent meetings.
