The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Technical Director, John Keister, and Head Coach Didier Gomez Da Rosa departed Sierra Leone on Friday, August 7, for the United Kingdom on an official player scouting mission.
According to the SLFA, the mission forms part of their ongoing commitment to identifying and assessing eligible Sierra Leonean players based overseas who have the potential to strengthen the country’s senior national men’s team, Leone Stars.
During their stay in the UK, the delegation will be joined by Morlai B. Kamara, SLFA National Team scout, who is resident in the UK. Together, they will engage with players, clubs, and key stakeholders as part of efforts to broaden the national team talent pool.
The delegates are expected to return to Sierra Leone within a week to continue preparations for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers in late September, with the scouting mission forming an important part of the technical team’s preparations ahead of the qualifiers.
The SLFA said they remain committed to building competitive national teams through a comprehensive scouting programme that identifies and integrates the best available Sierra Leonean talent from across the world.
The Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars is expected to play Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea between September and October in the AFCON Qualifiers. The Leone Stars last participated in the AFCON in Cameroon in 2021, where they were narrowly eliminated in a group containing Algeria, Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea.
