Sierra Leone’s national football team, the Leone Stars, commenced intensive training on Tuesday, June 2, at the SLFA Football Academy as preparations intensify for two FIFA-sanctioned international friendly matches against Liberia’s Lone Star.

The national team is currently under the guidance of SLFA Technical Director John Edward Keister, who is serving as Caretaker Coach while the Sierra Leone Football Association continues its recruitment process for a substantive Head Coach.

Team Manager Abdul Karim Bangura (AKB) was present at the training session and delivered words of motivation, encouraging the players to remain focused and mentally prepared.

The first leg of the two-match series is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at the Southern Arena in Bo City, Sierra Leone. The return fixture will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia, Liberia.

Although classified as friendly matches, the encounters carry significant importance as FIFA-recognised fixtures that will impact the world rankings of both nations. They also serve as key preparation for the TotalEnergies AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

Foreign-based players have started arriving in camp, with more expected to join the squad on Wednesday for full-scale training sessions.
