Termination Letter Shows Why SLFA Sacked Mohamed Kallon

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has terminated the appointment of Mohamed Kallon as Head Coach of the national team, the Leone Stars, with immediate effect.

In a letter dated 2nd April 2026, SLFA General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh informed Kallon that the decision was taken by the association’s Executive Committee following a comprehensive review of his engagement, conduct, and performance.

The SLFA cited multiple instances of persistent non-compliance with administrative, operational, and regulatory obligations, including:

Repeated failure or refusal to attend official team and squad announcement press conferences.
Failure to hold mandatory pre-match and post-match press conferences in breach of international fixture obligations.
Refusal to comply with FIFA’s express requirement for head coach attendance at press conferences during the recent 2026 FIFA Series match against Azerbaijan, despite direct communication from tournament officials and team management.
Authorising a non-designated coach, Mental Coach Paul Pkaka, to represent him at a pre-match press conference in contravention of established protocols.
Refusing to include and travel with a goalkeeper coach on the basis that the coach is a foreigner — an action the FA described as “xenophobic, unjustifiable, and has no place in a professional sporting environment.”
Engaging in unauthorised social media commentary on confidential matters, including CAF credential verification processes, causing potential reputational and regulatory risk.
Refusing to appoint and travel with a duly qualified Assistant Coach 2 as required by CAF, instead insisting on including an unqualified individual.

The SLFA stated that Kallon’s actions constituted a fundamental breach of his core functions and had “irreparably undermined the trust and confidence reposed in your office.”

Kallon has been directed to immediately cease representing himself as head coach and to hand over all SLFA property in his possession. The association acknowledged his service and wished him success in future endeavours.
