Sierra Leonean football has taken a significant leap forward following the announcement of a partnership between Luawa FC and Spanish club CD Leganés.
The collaboration, finalized during a visit to Spain by Luawa FC Chairman Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, aims to create opportunities for Sierra Leonean players to gain international exposure.
The agreement will facilitate talent exchanges and specialized training programs between the two clubs, offering aspiring players a platform to develop their skills and showcase their talent in Europe.
“We are delighted to partner with CD Leganés. This partnership represents a significant step forward for Luawa FC and Sierra Leonean football,” said Dr. Abdulai. “Our primary objective is to expose our players to top-level football while learning from CD Leganés’ renowned player development expertise.”
During his visit, Dr. Abdulai presented a Luawa FC jersey to CD Leganés co-owner Jeff Luhnow as a gesture of goodwill. Discussions during the meeting focused on youth development strategies and the mutual benefits of the collaboration.
Luawa FC Head Coach Ibrahim Sillah hailed the partnership as “timely and significant,” emphasizing its potential to elevate the club’s profile and enhance player skills. Vice Captain Samuel Ajamie Nongorwa described the collaboration as a “game-changer” for the team and an “amazing opportunity” for their future careers.
