Sierra Leone international Mohamed Bai Kamara is set to make his competitive debut for FC Ryukyu as the Japanese J3 League side opens its season against Giravanz Kitakyushu on Saturday, August 8.

The match will be played at the Okinawa Prefectural Athletic Stadium, marking a significant milestone for the 21-year-old defender since completing his move to the club earlier this year. Kamara joined FC Ryukyu in May 2026 on a permanent transfer from Latvian outfit FK Metta, stepping into Asian football for the first time in his career.

Born on January 10, 2005, Kamara stands at 188 centimetres and operates primarily in defence, where his physical presence and composure are expected to strengthen Ryukyu’s backline. He has represented Sierra Leone at both youth and senior levels, earning four caps with the Under-20 side and making one appearance for the senior national team.

Kamara began his football journey in Sierra Leone before moving to Europe, where he featured for SK Super Nova and later FK Metta in Latvia. His transition to Japan represents a new chapter as he looks to develop further and gain international experience.

Speaking after his arrival, the defender, who prefers to be called “Bai”, expressed pride and excitement about joining the club, highlighting the warm reception he received from teammates and staff. “I am from West Africa, Sierra Leone. I am very happy and proud to be a member of this wonderful and charming club,” he said.

Assigned the number 5 jersey for the 2026 season, Kamara is expected to play an important role in FC Ryukyu’s defensive setup. All eyes will be on the young Sierra Leonean as he looks to make an immediate impact in the league opener.
