Ambassador Momodu Koroma Visits Leone Stars Ahead of Zimbabwe AFCON Clash
Sierra Leone’s national football team, the Leone Stars, received a morale boost on Tuesday ahead of their opening TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 Group E qualifier against Zimbabwe following a visit from Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Alhaji Momodu Koroma.
Ambassador Koroma visited the team’s camp in El Jadida to formally welcome the delegation to Morocco and assure the players and officials of the embassy’s diplomatic support throughout their stay.
During his address, Ambassador Koroma highlighted developments within Sierra Leonean football under the leadership of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara. He said the structural developments within the game provide encouragement for continued government investment in the development of football.
The ambassador also reminded the players of the responsibility that comes with representing Sierra Leone on the continental stage. He urged them to wear the national colours with honour and give their best in Thursday’s encounter against Zimbabwe.
Responding on behalf of the squad, Leone Stars Team Manager Abdul Karim Bangura thanked Ambassador Koroma for the visit and the support extended to the team.
Bangura reaffirmed that the players and technical staff remain united and focused on their objective of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sierra Leone will face Zimbabwe on Thursday at the Ben M’Hamed Stadium in El Jadida in their opening Group E qualifying match, with both teams seeking a positive start to their AFCON 2027 campaign.
