Sierra Leone will be eager to make their fourth appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations. Despite sitting third in the Group with 5 points, all is not lost as there are possibilities of Leone Stars qualification to the AFCON.

Sierra Leone needs to win the Match Day 5 against the Super Eagles to keep their dreams of making it to Cote d’Ivoire 2023 alive.

They must ensure they break a long-standing winless streak against Nigeria, having not defeated the three-time Afcon champions since their narrow 1-0 triumph in a World Cup qualifier back in 2001.

If Sierra Leone manages to defeat Nigeria and Sao Tome wins against Guinea Bissau, it will greatly enhance Leone Stars’ chances of qualification with 8 points, leaving Guinea Bissau in third place with 7 points.

Alternatively, a draw between Sao Tome and Guinea Bissau, combined with a win for Leone Stars against the Super Eagles, could also create a path to possible qualification.

However, if Sierra Leone only manages a draw against Nigeria and Guinea Bissau emerges victorious over Sao Tome, their chances of qualifying for the AFCON will significantly diminish.

Sierra Leone will be aiming to disrupt the Super Eagles’ ambitions and potentially advance their own campaign.
