On Saturday, 18 March 2023, Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank) organized its maiden marathon race for 60 participants across the country.
The marathon with the theme, “Race for Digitization” commenced at RCBank’s outlet at PWD, East End of Freetown, and ended at Kallon Park, Lumley-Aberdeen Beach Road, West End of Freetown.
Theresa S. Kargbo, who ran for 50:16, came first in the female category. Samuel Sankey Mansaray took the first position for the male category after running for 44:14. Both of them were awarded a trophy and a cash prize by RCBank.
Speaking to Sierraloaded, Theresa S. Kargbo said that it took her a lot to be where she is today.
She said that the training was not easy for her as she had to work extra hard to maintain her champion status.
Kargbo said she felt good and happy for the result she got in the race, even though she didn’t run the way she had planned as a full marathon runner.
“I am doing hard training which is not even for the level of Sierra Leone. I am training for the International level. So, for me, the distance is short,” she disclosed.
The winner in the male category, Samuel Sankey Mansasary, said that he is a natural athlete and has represented Sierra Leone in so many places.
He said he is always training hard and ready to compete in any competition he is called up to.
The Athlete said, even though this is the first time for him to participate in an RCBank competition, he knew what it takes and what they are getting out of the race.
He disclosed that he has other competitions coming up that he is preparing for.
“I am going back to prepare hard for my next competitions,” Mansaray disclosed.
