Sierra Leone’s Under-19 cricket team is fourth in the standings of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 2 ahead of their encounter with table-topping Uganda.
According to the standings, Sierra Leone have recorded one win and three defeats from four matches, leaving them on two points with a net run rate of -0.758. They sit above Ghana and Mozambique, who occupy fifth and sixth positions respectively.
Uganda lead the six-team table with a perfect record of four wins from four matches and eight points, while Nigeria and Rwanda are second and third with six points each. Nigeria have a net run rate of 3.789, followed by Uganda on 3.608 and Rwanda on 1.501.
Sierra Leone’s position reflects a challenging campaign, although their sole victory came in their previous outing against Mozambique, when they secured an eight-wicket win after restricting Mozambique to 89 all out and reaching 93 for two in 13 overs. (ICC)
The clash with Uganda therefore presented a difficult test for Sierra Leone, with Uganda entering the contest unbeaten and already among the leading teams in the competition.
The tournament is part of the qualification pathway for the 2028 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, with the top three teams advancing to the 2027 Africa Qualifier. (icc)
