Sierra Leone booked their place in the 2023 Sydney-Africa Cup of Nations final with a 2-1 victory over Central Africa Republic at Western Sydney Wanderers Stadium on Saturday.

CAR opened the scoring in the early minute of the second half but Ibrahim Kamara aka Bojo Man levels to scored his fifth goal in the tournament. Ibrahim Kabia was the hero, scoring the winner to claim the most unlikely of victories.

CAR attempted to get themselves back into the game but it allowed Sierra Leone ample space to exploit on the counter, with the two CAR wingers terrorising their back four with their blistering pace but Sierra Leone was able to maintain to keep their dreams alive.

Sierra Leone is just a stone’s throw away from a record 5th title after Saturday’s victory only if they could cold-shoulder the tournament favourites South Sudan who thrashed Ivory Coast 4-1 to secure a spot in the final against Sierra Leone in what many expected to be a do or battle.

However, Sierra Leone has won twice of the four most recent meetings, with South Sudan triumphing once with both teams sharing spoils.

Sudan could win eight successive matches in the same season for the second time since the inception of the tournament.
