Sierra Leone’s U-20 team lost 4-1 to South Africa on Tuesday, May 6, at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, in their final group match at the U-20 Africa Cup.
South Africa led 1-0 at halftime and went on to extend their advantage in the second half, scoring three more goals to secure the 4-1 victory. Sierra Leone managed to pull one back, but they were unable to mount a full comeback.
The loss means the Shooting Stars will not finish first in Group A. They had already secured a spot in the quarterfinals after defeating Tanzania in their previous match.
The team will now shift their focus to the knockout stages, where every match is crucial. Coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara will work with the players to regroup and prepare for what’s ahead in the tournament
