The Sierra Leone Female national football team, Sierra Queen announced that they won’t be participating in the CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifiers due to financial difficulties.

Sierra Queens, who are due to play Ivory Coast on Wednesday July 12 will forfeit the fixture because financial glitches.

The Sierra Leone Female team was to play the return leg the following week, July 18 in Monrovia, Liberia.

CAF announced in May that a total of 23 teams will participate in the qualifying round. Successful teams would represent the African continent in the 2024 Olympic Tournament in France.

Female football saw a massive resurgence late in 2022 when the Sierra Leonean FA inaugurated a female football league.

The competition received widespread commendation from sport enthusiasts but this recent news has left them in grief.
