The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has condemned an alleged incident of gender identification harassment involving a player of Mogbwemo Queens FC, reportedly perpetrated by a male police officer at a checkpoint in Bo.
In a press release, the SLFA said it was aware of the allegation and unequivocally condemned the reported conduct, stressing that the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every footballer remain paramount.
The Association disclosed that its Safeguarding Manager is in constant contact with the affected player and Mogbwemo Queens FC, adding that appropriate safeguarding protocols have been activated in line with applicable FIFA Safeguarding Guidelines.
According to the SLFA, Mogbwemo Queens FC has formally reported the matter to the relevant authorities. The Association said it will continue to support the player and the club while closely monitoring the case pending the establishment of the facts and any appropriate action by the competent authorities.
The SLFA has called on all relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is investigated promptly, fairly and in accordance with the law.
The football governing body further reiterated its zero-tolerance position towards harassment, abuse and any conduct that undermines the dignity and safety of players.
The SLFA said it remains committed to protecting all footballers and ensuring that football in Sierra Leone is conducted in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.
