SLFA Issues 24-Hour Warning to Clubs Over Expired Player Contracts
Sia Lucy Kannah The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has reminded all affiliated clubs that players whose contracts have expired must be released in accordance with applicable regulations and due process.
The directive, issued on August 13, 2026, applies to players registered through SLFA/FIFA Connect and other recognised player registration systems.
The SLFA said that where a player’s contract has expired, it reserves the right, after establishing the relevant facts, to release the player 24 hours after a formal request for release has been made, particularly where a club refuses or fails to facilitate the process.
The Association said the measure is intended to protect players’ rights, promote fairness and transparency, and ensure that players can complete their registration with their preferred clubs after fulfilling their contractual obligations.
The SLFA has therefore urged all affiliated clubs to promptly comply with requests to release players whose contracts have expired and to avoid unnecessary delays or administrative obstacles.
The Association reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a fair, transparent and properly regulated player registration process for all stakeholders in Sierra Leone football.
