The Sierra Leone Football Association with support from Government has today Saturday October 15th officially kickstarted the first ever Women’s Premier League at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni.

The Opening Ceremony’s Grand Chief Patronages H.E. Brigadier (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio* of the Republic of Sierra Leone took the symbolic kickoff to officially declare the league open, leading to a mouthwatering encounter between Mena Queens (hosts) and Kahunla Queens (visitors).

In his statement, the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association *Thomas Daddy Brima* expressed great delight witnessing the commencement of the country’s female elite league. *“This is a dream come true”,* he said. Adding that, *“my Executive Committee and I will ensure that today’s momentum and prominence around female football is always kept alive”.*

He ended by thanking President Julius Maada Bio for his “untiring and incomparable” support towards football development in Sierra Leone.

The opening contest remained indecisive for the most part of the regulation time until Kahunla Queens eventually carried the day edging the hosts by 1 goal to 0 after their sensational winger Matilda Kabba’s glorious volley shook the net.
