The Sierra Leone Football Association’s Academy pitch lies in a dilapidated state of ruin. The pitch lies at the Head quarter of the football Association Battery Street, Freetown.

The pitch is used by football teams including our darling Leone Stars (Sierra Leone national football team) for training and other  matches. By the look of these photos, members of the public poses questions like  “does this look like a football pitch? How well can football players practice on this ground? What are the thoughts or plans of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) for this pitch?” The SLFA normally rents out this facility to people and organizations for functions: what is  SLFA doing with these funds it has been raising from the rentals? Are there any plans of overhauling the facility?

However, with the controversies surrounding the status of the pitch, Madam Isha Johansen, the erstwhile Sierra Leone Football Association President announced on the 22nd May 2021 at a press conference held at the Bintumani Hall, Aberdeen Freetown, officially announced four (4) new FIFA Approved Artificial Turf Projects to be carried out across the country simultaneously.

The 4 venues to be given a face lift under the said projects are; SLFA Academy (Kingtom), Approved School (Western Area), Lungi Central Field and the Coronation Field (Bo).

The FIFA Council Member further announced the decision of the SLFA Executive Committee to transform the Port Loko Town Field into a state of the art (26,000 capacity) playing facility which will eventually be the country’s Football Federation Stadium.

A majority of Sierra Leoneans are looking forward towards the implementation of this the said FIFA Project. However since the announcement of the Project, the public is yet to know the Status of the 4 new FIFA approved Artificial Turf Projects.
