The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has in a press release dated 15th august, 2023 issued update on the current status of Leone Stars Technical Team and debunked rumours making rounds on social media.

They also informed the general public that further information about the team and its activities would be communicated after the Guinea Bissau-Sierra Leone encounter, which is scheduled for early September in Bissau.

The Press Release reads: “The Sierra Leone Football Association has noted with keen interest the overwhelming rumours and gossips, particularly on social media, apparently purporting the appointment of a new Head Coach for Leone Stars.

SLFA would therefore like to make the following clarifications;

SLFA has not made any new appointment of coaches/Technical Staff in the Sierra Leone National Team.

The substantive Head Coach of Leone Stars John Keister remains in charge as his three-year contract is still valid until the end of August 2023.

Since his contract will expire a week before match-day 6 of the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers between Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone, SLFA has further temporarily engaged Keister and his back room staff for their service for the said match.

The Sierra Leone Football Association would therefore like to assure the general public that it will communicate, through it’s official media channels, any further information regarding the status of Leone Stars Technical Team after the Guinea Bissau-Sierra Leone encounter scheduled for early September in Bissau.”
