Alie Kandeh Sillah scored a late winner as Wusum Stars defeated league leaders Bo Rangers 1-0 at the Southern Arena on Wednesday, June 17, denying the hosts the chance to be crowned champions in front of their home supporters.

Bo Rangers entered the match with a commanding 10-point lead at the top of the Leone Rock Premier League table and needed just a win to secure a fourth league title with three matches remaining. Instead, they suffered only their second defeat of the campaign.

Wusum Stars produced a disciplined, low-risk performance, converting the match’s only clear opening before shifting to a defensive posture to preserve the advantage. The visitors sat deeper after taking the lead, relying on compact defending and quick counters to protect their advantage.

Both sides probed cautiously throughout the contest. Bo Rangers controlled possession but struggled to create clear chances against a well-organized Wusum backline. The hosts attempted to dominate through midfield possession and wing play, but Wusum’s compact shape and disciplined pressing in transition limited high-quality opportunities. Set pieces and late substitutions gave Bo Rangers pressure but not the breakthrough.

Sillah was deservedly named Man of the Match after an outstanding display capped by the decisive goal.

For Wusum Stars, the win provides valuable points and momentum as they fight to climb the table and distance themselves from relegation trouble.

Despite the setback, Bo Rangers remain firmly in control of the title race. They will turn their attention to their final three fixtures against Diamond Stars, Mighty Blackpool, and Abacha City FC, where they will hope to secure the points needed to clinch the championship.
