Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has departed Sierra Leone today in order to attend the US-Africa summit in Washington, DC, hosted by the President of the United States, Joe Biden.

The President is accompanied by his wife, First Lady, Fatima Bio for the summit which is slated for December 13 to 15.

The Press Secretary of Sierra Leone, Yusuf Keketoma Sandi revealed on social media that President Bio and the First Lady departed the shores of Sierra Leone earlier today for the US-Africa Summit, which will offer an opportunity for African leaders to advance their partnership with the US government.

“This morning, @PresidentBio has departed 🇸🇱 for the 🇺🇸 to attend the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit hosted by @POTUS on December 13 – 15, 2022. The Summit is expected to demonstrate United States’ enduring commitment to Africa. @PresidentBio is accompanied by his wife, @Ladyfatimabio,” he disclosed.

President Bio is expected to be among the 20 African Head of States slated to speak at the US Africa Leaders Summit, which is aimed at outlining the commitment of the US to African countries both in terms of development and diplomatic ties.

“It will also underscore the importance of US-Africa relations and increased cooperation on shared global priorities,” a statement from US State Department said.

All African Head of State have been invited by the US President Joe Biden and it is one of the greatest meeting to have ever been organized by the US.

First Lady, Fatima Bio will be hosted by the First Lady Dr Biden and the spouses program will focus on supporting youths, particularly girls to reach their full potential. The program will cover why investing in young people matters, Removing Barriers to Healthcare Access, Empowering Youth and promoting Equitable Food Access through Urban Garden, using First Lady’s Platforms in creating and advancing initiatives and bringing awareness to priority issues.

The Sierra Leone delegation will also have the opportunity to meet with 250 businesses from the United States and Africa.
