Environmental Sanitation Officer (ESO) of Freetown City Council, Mustapha Kemokai has been alleged for embezzling the sum of Le54 million that was meant for the cleaning of cemeteries in Freetown.

This allegation was made by Councillor Abdul Karim Fofanah of Ward 445, Chairman for Communication at Freetown City Council on a Press Conference at Freetown City Council Administrative Building that was called by the Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr on 29th September, 2021.

Councillor Abdul Karim also talked about the challenges they are going through at Freetown City Council (FCC). He said their mandate as elected officials is to make policies that will seek the interest of the people. He added that Le54,000,000 cheque was signed by Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr before leaving for England on 23rd July, 2021. The essence of the money was to clean the cemeteries which was assigned to the newly transferred Environmental Sanitation Officer (ESO), Mustapha Kemokai. According to Abdul Karim, the money has not been provided and the work has not been done. “When we reached out to him for the money, he said he has been fired with a witch gun and he cannot do anything”. He added. Councillor Abdul Karim said that they were expecting him to delegate the task to Deputy ESO, Sorie Kamara but he never did.

On Wednesday 29th September, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr called a Press Conference and invited the media and other political stakeholders to highlight Freetonians the challenges she is going through with the Chief Administrator of FCC, Festus Kallay. Through this Press Conference, the Councillor for Ward 445, Abdul Karim Fofanah alleged ESO of embezzling the Le54 million that was meant for the cleaning of cemeteries in Freetown.
