The European Union Team on the 1st of February, 2023 held discussions with the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) to access the state of electoral preparedness of the commission for the June 24th Elections.

Thid discussion came amidst the ECSL’s strategic preparations for the conduct of the parliamentary and local council elections as well as presidential elections in June 2023.

The European Union Team has been part of the signing of financial and contribution agreements that will support the electoral management bodies (EMBs) of Sierra Leone and relevant stakeholders in the process to assure an inclusive election.

The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) in a briefing has assured the team of their total preparedness to ensure proper elections roll out.

In lieu of all these briefings and assurance, the EU team has agreed to contribute €1M as well as Ireland contributing the sum of €1.5M to the electoral fund managed by the United Nations development program’s election project titled “fostering peaceful, credible and inclusive election in Sierra Leone 2020-2023’’

This will support the organizations in training and monitoring of programs that will enhance projected aspiring women candidates, to build their capacity to effectively involve in political processes.
