SLPP MP Cautions US Government, Others Over Interference in Sierra Leone Democracy
Member of Parliament representing the Western Area Urban District for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Honourable Ibrahim Tawa Conteh has strongly cautioned election observers and the international community which includes the United States, emphasizing the sanctity of Sierra Leone’s sovereignty.
Hon. Tawa voiced this sentiment in a parliamentary discussion, pointing out that no external entity should assume a position of guiding Sierra Leone on democratic governance matters.
Awoko reports that during his speech, he acknowledged President Bio’s recent address where the President commended international partners for their role in fortifying democracy over the last two centuries. Hon. Tawa also touched upon global democratic hurdles, noting recent legal actions involving a past U.S. President.
Highlighting the universal challenges in democratic systems, he drew parallels with the European Union’s current issues with Hungary’s Prime Minister’s aspirations for enhanced judicial control and the indictment related to election involvement concerning former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Hon. Tawa underscored the stipulations of Sierra Leone’s Public Elections Act, urging election overseers to operate strictly within their mandates as per national legislation. He stressed that the fate of Sierra Leone’s democracy is firmly in the grasp of its people, and any hiccups should be tackled within the nation’s democratic channels.
In wrapping up, he asserted Sierra Leone’s unwavering dedication to a robust, open, and genuine democratic system, urging global respect for the same. Recognizing the inherent flaws in all democratic setups, Hon. Tawa reiterated the nation’s and its citizens’ commitment to rectifying these shortcomings.
In his view, Sierra Leone, with all its imperfections, remains a beacon of democratic practice that other countries should admire and learn from.
They have 100% to intervain in our democracy because the help they render to us is highly great so they have the right to resture democracy in our countr,,,, ok if I may ask when last sierra Leone donate something for the US and when last did the US came here for help. the answer is never, we are the ones always pelting down 👇 for help from them. Ibrahim Tawa,you are eroding your integrity and credibility you had made for yourself during your first 5yrs in parliament. These kinds of deceptions you are saying in the well of parliament makes sobber citizens to question your sincerity and integrity. Shame on you for diverting the truth.
You are a very wise and talented person. I am very happy about your analysis. When you say Sierra Leone is sovereign, the mp is right. But to say the international community should not intervene is nonsense. As we are as a nation, we rely on relief from them. So like Father to son, the international community has the mandate to direct and monitor our democratic process. If we did it wrong, they will tell us to fix it. If we refuse, then they withhold their money.
Why can’t we bare in mind that our country is a sovereign state and we should adhere to its policies and exclusively deterrent the interference of external factors? We’ve used to depend on external factors because we are lazy in terms of our implementation. Sierra Leone we need to tite up our belts and find ideas to the development of mama salone. God bless us
They do not think about the people ,they only think about themselves. The most unguided, unfaithful ,and unpatriotic people in our country are these folks. They are not saying this because of our representation, it is because most of them are unconstitutionally elected. So they are doing everything within their power to make it work, even though it’s illegitimate. All I can say, if president Bio is truly elected as president of Sierra Leone as the Constitution demands, God will favor him with the wisdom knowledge and understanding with favor in guiding his way through. But if he’s illegitimately, posterity will surely caught up with him and his entire accomplices. God bless our land, my sierra Leone, my responsibility.

Sometimes we have to think twice.Who are the people that teach us democracy and when did we start practicing democracy also How did we come to know about democracy ? We should be asking ourself this kind of questions sometime especially those our MPs. If we are at where we are right now is because of those people so why can’t we respect them for once especially when it comes to situations . The truthfulness of the election results aside , whenever these western powers criticize our democratic process , mostly its because they want to pressure us to do their bidding in return for their endorsement of our democratic process .
Do you not wonder why our government is planning to open our Isreali embassy in Jerusalem , a disputed city , that , I think is the precondition for endorsing the legitimacy of the ECSL pronouncement of Bio’s 2nd term .
