Benevolent Islamic Secondary School Mourns The Death of First Admitted Pupil in Makeni
Forty-four years after the school was established in the Northern city of Makeni, Benevolent Islamic Secondary School, one of the Northern province’s fastest-growing Schools has lost its first admitted student.
The school was established by the Sierra Leone Muslim Women Benevolent Organization (SLMWBO) in Makeni City in September 1979, and Gibril Conteh, the late man was the first to be admitted as a student of a school that ended up producing notable figures in society.
Conteh, the Benevolent oldest student with admission number 001 succumbed to the cold hands of death on Thursday 5th October 2023 in Makeni after a reported illness.
He was one of Makeni City’s finest educationists and the fact that his death coincided with the celebration of World Teachers Day on October 5th left the majority of residents here especially those from the teaching fraternity in shock.
Until his death, Conteh was also the Benevolent Mission Education Secretary, and he was charged with the responsibility of overseeing all of the schools under the mission across the country.
The school has entered into the history book of education and academic excellence not only in the Northern part of Sierra Leone but nationwide.
Arguably, the school has not only produced notable figures in all spheres of life but also has had excellent results in external examinations.
In several messages and statements, the mission has described their first student and former education secretary as an asset whose vacuum could not be easily filled.
Since the announcement of his sudden demise, the Benevolent Old Students Association, BenOSA, has joined the public to sympathize with the family of one of the school’s treasures.
He was buried on the same day at the school compound.
