Sierra Leone’s Tripartite Committee Submits Draft Findings And Recommendations

24 Jun 2024 • 1 min read • 17,546 views • 14 comments

Sierra Leone’s Independent Cross-Party Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review, often called the Tripartite Committee has finally submitted its report.

The report was presented today by the government representative, Dr. Emmanuel Gaima to Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh June 24, 2024, at the State House in Freetown.

The committee, tasked with reviewing election results, certification processes, observer reports, and the Public Elections Act of 2022, emerged from a communiqué signed by the SLPP and APC in October 2023, following mediation by the international community, including the Commonwealth, African Union, and ECOWAS. The committee’s operations were funded with $1.5 million by the United States government.

The committee’s six-month mandate to complete its investigation was due on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. However, an extension was granted following a critical meeting with President Bio at the State House, accompanied by moral guarantors ECOWAS and AU.

Last Thursday, Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh announced that the committee has diligently addressed 86 identified issues, successfully resolving 69 of them.

After receiving the report on Monday, Sengeh wrote: “The Tripartite Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review has done 6 months of great national service. As Chief Negotiator, I received draft findings and recommendations today. We will quickly review for final submission to President Bio.”

The drafts are finalized recommended and reviewed points./ Terms.

Sincerely speaking the opposition party APC has really succeeded in distracting this government from delivering what their political mandate is. All of these political Razzmatazz , in the name tripartite agreement , cannot help this country. When the APC rigged the 2012 elections, SLPP never distracted their attention from governing this country. Instead of these two parties to come together and address the peoples’ interest , they are busying with their nonsense agreement . Thanks. That’s my opinion and should be held responsible . Thanks.

This report is so confusing: presenting the draft report to the CM for his/their review. Who is doing the review, and who prepares the final report? And who makes the final submission to HE? Will that be the CM or jointly by the tripartite committee? Nothing is ever transparent in this country.
