SLAJ Meets Police IG to Resolve Matter Involving Journalist Thomas Dixon
Deborah Sorie The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) today held a meeting with the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police to address concerns surrounding journalist Thomas Dixon and the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu.
The meeting, held at the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters on George Street, Freetown, was attended by SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, former SLAJ President Umaru Fofana, and senior journalist and lecturer Dr. Isaac Massaquoi. Thomas Dixon was also present.
During the meeting, the events of the past three days involving the IG and Dixon were reviewed, and the matter was amicably resolved.
The Inspector General assured SLAJ that there was never any threat to the safety and security of Thomas Dixon, who has since returned home with his family after they went into hiding following concerns about his safety.
Dixon, in turn, agreed to voluntarily remove his Facebook post referring to the IG as “arrogant.”
SLAJ remains committed to fostering a strong and collaborative relationship with the Sierra Leone Police and the broader national security apparatus under the Office of National Security.
