Theft at Connaught Hospital: Cleaner Remanded for Allegedly Stealing Le 93,900 Worth of Pharmaceutical Supplies
Julius Mustapha Harding A cleaner at Connaught Hospital, Ibrahim Sankoh, has been charged with larceny after allegedly stealing pharmaceutical supplies worth Le 93,900 from the hospital’s Cost Recovery Pharmacy.
Sankoh appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, facing a count charge of Larceny by Servant under Section 17(4) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to court documents, the accused committed the theft on Thursday, January 16, 2025, while employed as a cleaner at the hospital’s Recovery Pharmacy. He allegedly stole 100 boxes of Azithromycin tablets, 50 boxes of Immuno Boost capsules, and 40 boxes of Well Woman 50plus capsules. The stolen medications belonged to Fatmata Binta Bah and were meant for patients accessing healthcare services at Connaught Hospital.
During his court appearance, the charge was read and explained to the accused, but no plea was taken. Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai requested a short adjournment to contact his witness.
Magistrate Kekura denied bail and ordered Sankoh to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown until the next hearing, scheduled for February 19, 2025.
