Chief Fire Officer Reveals Cause of State House Fire
Umu Bah Nazir Ahmad Alie Kamanda Bongay, Chief Fire Officer in Sierra Leone said preliminary investigations have revealed that the severe fire outbreak at State House, the Office of the President over the weekend was caused by an electrical fire.
He said that it was an electrical fire that was caused by equipment that may have been in operation on the building’s third storey prior to the fire spread.
Mr. Bongay reported that when the firefighters entered the building to do the inspection, they discovered that certain electrical sockets and switches were left on. They also noticed very low-quality electrical extensions plugged in those sockets, and left on in some of the offices.
He added that the firefighters discovered some badly wired cable systems in most of the offices, as well as some air conditioners that had been left turned on.
He confirmed that some offices on the 3rd floor in the Central Part of the West Wing of the building were entirely burned down, with some partially burned, while just two offices on the 4th floor were completely destroyed.
