No Matter How Freetown Is Divided, It Will Vote APC in the 2028 Election – Sylvia Blyden
Sylvia Olayinka Blyden says any move to divide Freetown into new cities won’t change its voting pattern.
According to her, even if the capital is split into several parts, all areas will still vote mostly for the APC party in the 2028 elections.
She described any political complaints over the restructuring of Freetown’s local administration as “insane,” saying the changes are long overdue.
Her comments follow the government’s recent decision to approve two new districts and elevate certain towns to city status.
The new districts Bandajuma, taking areas from Bo and Pujehun, and Kpangoma, which includes parts of Kenema and Kailahun will increase the national count from 16 to 18 once fully finalized.
Also, Lungi Township, where Sierra Leone’s international airport is located, will be made a city. Plans are also underway to split Freetown into multiple cities, though details are still pending.
Some citizens have questioned whether the changes are politically motivated, considering Freetown’s voting record leaning toward the APC party. Blyden’s statement is seen by many as a direct response to that concern.
