Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) issued an immediate release today, July 8, 2025, warning the public about a fraudulent online recruitment notice.
The agency stated its attention has been drawn to a social media notice titled “Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) 2025 Recruitment Scheme,” which falsely claims Stats SL has opened an online application portal for new employees for the upcoming decennial Population and Housing Census.
Stats SL categorically stated that this notice and its accompanying link are false and misleading.
The agency clarified that it did open advertisements on April 27, 2025, for various temporary positions related to upcoming cartography and other census secretariat staff. However, applications for these positions closed on May 15, 2025, and the recruitment process is already at an advanced stage.
“We have NOT opened any new applications via any portal or by any other means,” Stats SL stated. “When we do open any future recruitment, it will be officially announced on our website.”
The public is urged to disregard any unauthorized links or notices claiming to be from Stats SL, as these are likely scams intended to defraud unsuspecting individuals. Stats SL also emphasized that it does not request or accept any form of payment from individuals seeking employment for the census or any other data collection exercise.
