Residents of Lower Banta Chiefdom Accuse Paramount Chief and Mining Company of Failing to Fulfil Promises

In a troubling situation at Moyamba District’s lower Banta Chiefdom, Citizens of Banta allegedly accusing their paramount Chief and the Half Washa Mining Company Operating in the area for over three years without fulfilling their promises to the local community.

According to citizens’ concerns, they feel betrayed and exploited, as the company has been extracting resources from their land for years without providing any meaningful development or benefits in return. They further stated that, the Community Has been left improvised and marginalized, with their grievances falling on deaf ears.

However, the citizens of Lower Banta Chiefdom are disillusioned and angered by the actions of both the Mining Company and the Paramount Chief. Tensions rise when the Chief was accused of personally benefiting from the companies, while his citizens and the community are perishing.

They accused the Chief of not standing up for his people, and they are demanding accountability from the mining company, he was also accused of colluding with them for personal gain. By calling in the police to suppress the protests of his own community, he has shown a blatant disregard for their well-being and rights.
