A cloud of grief and suspicion hangs over the Kamara family following the sudden death of Mohamed Kamara, a Sierra Leonean national based in the United States who died less than 24 hours after returning home on July 22, 2025.
Family members of the deceased have filed an official complaint at the Bo Police Division alleging that Mohamed’s wife, Aisha Kamara, poisoned him shortly after his arrival from the U.S. The case has triggered a police investigation and intense public interest in Bo.
According to relatives, Mohamed and Aisha’s relationship started in neighboring Guinea in 2012. The two were married according to Islamic rites and later held a civil ceremony in May 2013. Shortly thereafter, Mohamed travelled to the United States in search of greener pastures, while Aisha remained in Bo.
Family members believe Mohamed’s sudden death was suspicious, claiming he appeared to be in good health when he arrived in the country. They allege he may have been deliberately poisoned upon his return.
However, in a statement to the media, Aisha Kamara strongly denied the allegation, insisting she was in constant phone communication with her husband throughout his journey from Lungi International Airport to Bo. She stated that Mohamed arrived home safely just after midnight. They reportedly unpacked luggage together until about 3:00 a.m. before going to bed.
According to Aisha, she awoke after 8:00 a.m. the next morning and began preparing breakfast when she found her husband lying in an unusual posture. Mohamed reportedly asked her to call for urgent medical help. She said she quickly contacted Mohamed’s nephew, Muctarr, who helped transport him to a nearby medical facility, the Kindoya Hospital in Bo, but Mohamed was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased’s body was subsequently transferred to the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown for a postmortem examination aimed at determining the actual cause of death. Aisha stated that the autopsy revealed a head fracture, not poisoning, as the cause of Mohamed’s death, although the family has neither confirmed receiving nor acknowledging this report.
Bo Police say investigations are ongoing and have promised to release updates as more information becomes available. Meanwhile, the matter continues to generate debate and concern among locals, highlighting broader social issues over trust, inheritance, and the pressures facing transnational marriages.
As the investigation proceeds, the Kamara family awaits official clarification on the circumstances surrounding Mohamed’s untimely death.
