In the afternoon hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, a local fisherman reportedly drowned during a fishing trip in Jui, Freetown, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
Reported confirmed that two men were fishing when one decided to swim. Shortly after entering the water, he disappeared and did not resurface.
Despite attempts by bystanders to help, the man drowned, and search efforts to recover his body are ongoing.
The concerned authorities were contacted, and they are expected to launch a thorough investigation on the cause of the incident. As at the time of reporting, the identify the victim remained unknown.
