Admire Bio Condemns Public Humiliation of First Lady Fatima Bio

Admire Bio, prominent businesswoman and niece of President Julius Maada Bio, popularly known as the “Mama of Freetown,” has spoken out against the “coco roast” chant directed at First Lady Fatima Bio during the State Opening of Parliament.

In a Facebook Live address, Admire described the incident as “unacceptable” and said she felt genuine pain witnessing it, stressing that no woman should be subjected to such public humiliation.

She noted that she typically avoids getting involved in controversies, recalling that even during rumors surrounding the First Lady and Hawa Hunt, she remained on good terms with Hawa Hunt, emphasizing that her own achievements are due to God and not any person.

Admire suggested that the disrespect towards Fatima Bio may have originated from within the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), despite efforts to attribute it to the opposition All People’s Congress (APC).

She described the perpetrators as “witchcrafts” and drew parallels with her own experiences of public attacks, noting that support from the SLPP was almost nonexistent during her struggles, apart from political commentator Sylvia Blyden. She also observed that some of the individuals who had harmed her reputation previously were now turning against the First Lady.

Admire praised Fatima Bio for her resilience, describing her as a very strong woman for enduring such humiliation. She said the First Lady was right to put on her earphones during the incident, given the degrading treatment she faced. Admire also disclosed that some government ministries appeared to be smiling while the chant occurred, highlighting the lack of empathy in the situation.

While acknowledging that the First Lady may not always act perfectly, Admire stressed that no one deserves public ridicule. She further reflected on the hypocrisy she has experienced firsthand, noting that even her own family had distanced themselves during her difficult times.

Though she clarified that she does not take pleasure in Fatima Bio’s ordeal, she admitted a sense of vindication in seeing the First Lady recognize the insincerity of those around her.
