Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has outlined major accomplishments of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government under President Julius Maada Bio, stressing that the administration’s record demonstrates its commitment to delivering results for citizens.
In a public message, Sengeh noted that Sierra Leone has made progress across several sectors in the last decade, citing a 70% reduction in maternal mortality as one of the most significant gains. He added that child immunization coverage has surpassed 90%, leading to improved survival rates, especially for children in critical care.
On the economic front, Sengeh pointed to single-digit inflation, a more stable foreign exchange regime, increased exports, and a 158% rise in container imports as indicators of growth. Social welfare initiatives were also highlighted, including cash transfers for 11,000 elderly citizens and empowerment projects for youth involving training and resources such as fishing boats, agricultural tools, car washes, and kekehs.
According to the Chief Minister, the government has worked to make essential goods such as rice and onions more affordable, boosting purchasing power for households. He also emphasized Sierra Leone’s growing global relevance through leadership roles in international bodies, including the African Union Peace and Security Council, the UN Security Council, ECOWAS Authority, and the UN ECOSOC.
Sengeh further noted progress in gender inclusion, with 30% female representation across government, as well as expanded digital connectivity, with over 90% mobile phone coverage, wider internet access, and greater financial inclusion.
In education, more than 1.5 million additional learners have been enrolled, 1,500 classrooms constructed, and opportunities for girls in higher education expanded, alongside the establishment of more universities. Infrastructure development was also listed, including the new international airport, additional hospitals, four major bridges, and over 420km of roads.
“We aren’t done yet. Together, #WeWillDeliver more,” Chief Minister Sengeh concluded.
