The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have refuted claims circulating on social media alleging that a young girl has been kidnapped and that her abductor is demanding a ransom for her release.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the SLP stated that no formal complaint or report of such an incident has been filed at any police station across the country. According to the police, no individual or group has come forward to report a missing relative or loved one as suggested in the widely shared video.
The statement emphasized that the police would promptly update the public should any credible report or new information regarding the alleged incident be received. Authorities also urged members of the public to share any information that could assist in maintaining peace, safety, and security nationwide.
The SLP therefore assures the public to remain calm and to go about their normal business without fear, the notice read.
The police further encouraged vigilance and cooperation, noting that public assistance remains vital to effective policing efforts.
The notice was signed by the Media and Public Relations Department of the Sierra Leone Police at its headquarters in Kingtom.
