The National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) visit to Plan International, to foster a collaborative spirit in advancing youth development in Sierra Leone.
During the meeting, Commissioner Joseph Maada Lahai outlined NAYCOM’s mandate and strategic plan, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to Amplifying the voices of young people, Addressing their needs and Strengthening their capacities across key sectors, including governance, education, employment, entrepreneurship, peace-building, civic engagement, and innovation.
He underscored the importance of partnership, Joint Proposal Development, core-funding and resource mobilization between NAYCOM and Plan International, highlighting the potential for mutual benefit and collective impact.
Plan International’s Country Director, Muniratu Issifu, noted that NAYCOM’s strategic plan aligns with their vision for youth development. She emphasized the need for synergy with the Status of Youth report to avoid duplication of programs and ensure effective resource utilization.
She also expressed Plan International’s readiness to collaborate with NAYCOM on projects that will benefit Sierra Leone’s youth. She concluded by thanking NAYCOM for the visit, expressing delight at the prospect of a fruitful partnership.
This engagement marks a significant step towards strengthening collaboration and advancing youth development in Sierra Leone as technical staff from both agencies should meet to strategize on how to co-create a suitable programmes that will align with the mandates of the two institutions.
