The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a scheduled power outage in the Western Area on Friday, September 19, 2025.

This outage is necessary to facilitate essential mechanical work at the Newton 6MWp Solar PV Substation.

The power supply will be temporarily interrupted from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, during which technicians will carry out mechanical amendments as part of the installation of the 30 Megawatt Solar Project under the World Bank-funded RESPTIE 40MWp Solar PV initiative. The project is being executed by EDSA’s Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partners, including TBEA.

EDSA has emphasized that this is an opportune time to undertake the upgrade to ensure the project remains on schedule. The Newton substation upgrade is a vital component of Sierra Leone’s broader energy reform agenda, which aims to expand access to reliable, sustainable, and affordable electricity across the country.

“This activity is in line with President Bio’s energy sovereignty initiative and demonstrates our commitment to enhancing electricity services nationwide,” said EDSA.

The Authority apologizes for any inconvenience caused and assures the public that every effort will be made to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. EDSA remains committed to advancing Sierra Leone’s energy infrastructure for a brighter, more sustainable future.
