Paramount Chief Bailal N’soila Korthor III of Malal Chiefdom in Tonkolili District has dismissed Alusine Thoronka as the Acting Section Chief of Rochen Section.

The decision was made on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, following a meeting attended by representatives from all sections of the chiefdom.

According to the Paramount Chief and the Chiefdom Council, Thoronka allegedly attempted to destabilize the chiefdom by challenging the eligibility of two candidates contesting for the Rochen Section Chieftaincy. Thoronka’s letter, dated September 10, 2025, addressed to the Tonkolili District Officer, questioned whether the candidates were from the rightful ruling houses eligible for the position.

The Chiefdom Council interpreted the letter as a challenge to the Paramount Chief’s authority rather than a genuine consultation. They said it was intended to strip individuals of their ancestral rights, which could provoke divisions within the chiefdom.

The dismissal comes as Malal Chiefdom prepares to elect new Section Chiefs, though no election date has yet been set, and aspirants have yet to be vetted for eligibility. Paramount Chief Bailal N’soila emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability during this period.

Thoronka has not publicly responded to his dismissal. Community reactions remain mixed, with some questioning his actions and others supporting the Paramount Chief’s decision.

Thoronka, however, maintains that his letter was meant as a consultation, following a pronouncement that Section Chief positions were open regardless of ruling house affiliation
