Swift police intervention has averted potential retaliation after a fatal road accident along the Bo–Koribondo Highway claimed three lives on Sunday, September 28.
On Monday, Chief Superintendent Foday O. Sesay, Local Unit Commander (LUC) of Bo East Division, led a crucial engagement with tipper and truck drivers at Tipper Ground in Bo. He was accompanied by his Operations Team, headed by Inspector Festus Lahai.
Addressing the drivers, LUC Sesay cautioned them against prematurely resuming operations in the area, citing the tense atmosphere among commercial bike riders and bereaved families.
He appealed for calm, urging the drivers to show solidarity and sympathy to the affected families by temporarily vacating the area.

“No one takes joy in being part of an accident, especially one that results in death,” Sesay stressed. “This is not the time for provocation, but for unity and empathy as one family standing with the bereaved.”
The message was well received by the truck drivers, who commended the LUC’s leadership and agreed to suspend activities around Tipper Ground to avoid escalating tensions.
The intervention has been widely praised as a reflection of the Sierra Leone Police’s evolving service-oriented approach under the leadership of AIG Andrew Mustapaha Kamara, Regional Police Commander South.
Observers note that the swift action by Bo East Division demonstrates the police’s commitment to preventive policing and community engagement.
