Sierra Leonean Man Arrested in US Over Alleged Rape and Stabbing of 15-Year-Old Girl
A 23-year-old Sierra Leonean man, Abubakarr Barrie, is awaiting trial in the United States after allegedly raping and stabbing a 15-year-old girl in Baltimore, Maryland.
Barrie was arrested on Saturday, 24 October, two days after the incident, which reportedly took place in a basement apartment in Northwest Baltimore.
According to reports, the incident began on Thursday, 22 October, when the teenager accepted a ride from Barrie, who was allegedly operating an unlicensed rideshare vehicle, commonly known as a “hack”.
The girl had requested a ride to a local carryout restaurant. However, Barrie allegedly drove in the opposite direction. When she questioned him, he reportedly placed her in a headlock and forced her into his basement residence on Garrison Boulevard.
Inside the apartment, Barrie allegedly removed the teenager’s clothing, threatened her against screaming and repeatedly stabbed her across the chest, back, ribs, shoulder and ear.
The teenager reportedly fought back, scratching and clawing at her attacker before grabbing a fire extinguisher and striking him. She managed to break free and escape from the apartment.
Despite her injuries, the girl fled the house without shoes or clothing and ran through the neighbourhood, seeking help from residents. After knocking on several doors, she was assisted by a resident on Belle Avenue, who took her inside, called emergency services and contacted her mother.
The teenager was taken for medical treatment, where she was treated for multiple stab wounds and a collapsed lung.
Barrie was subsequently arrested on Saturday, 24 October, and is awaiting trial over the incident.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
