Magistrate Braima Jah of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 in Freetown has sentenced an unemployed youth, Ishmael Sesay, to six months’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to police records, the offence occurred on 6 July 2025 at the Plant Yard of Fourah Bay College, where Sesay stole three eight-foot red zinc sheets, each valued at Le 4,500, belonging to the management of the institution.
In his ruling, Magistrate Jah held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted Sesay accordingly. The magistrate emphasized that theft of institutional property undermines development and must be firmly discouraged.
Sesay was sentenced to six months in prison with no option of a fine.
