A police sergeant and his girlfriend have been remanded in custody after being charged with multiple drug-related offences in connection with a major cannabis bust in Kenema.

The accused, Sergeant Augustine Tamba Saffa, 35, and his girlfriend, Isha Conteh, a petty trader, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at the Pademba Road Court No.1 on Wednesday, facing four counts related to the possession and dealing of the prohibited drug cannabis sativa.

According to court particulars, on Monday, September 1st, 2025, at Yakama Street, New Site, Kenema, Sergeant Saffa was allegedly found in possession of seven hundred and ninety-nine wraps of cannabis sativa. The prosecution stated that he was not only in possession but was also “actively involved in the illegal trade of the prohibited drug without lawful authority.”

In a separate count, the second accused, Isha Conteh, was also found with three parcels of cannabis sativa and was alleged to have been “actively engaged in dealing.”

The courtroom atmosphere was tense as the charges were read out. Since the matter is still at the preliminary investigation stage, no plea was taken from the accused.

Citing the seriousness of the offences, Magistrate Jah denied bail and remanded Sergeant Saffa and Ms. Conteh at the Male and Female Correctional Centers in Freetown, respectively.
