The Government of Sierra Leone has condemned repeated attacks by Houthi militants against Saudi Arabia, including strikes targeting civilian areas and critical energy infrastructure, warning that the attacks threaten regional stability and international energy supplies.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Saturday, October 10, 2026, the government expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and extended its sympathies to those affected by the attacks.

The government warned that attacks on oil and energy facilities, airports and other critical installations could disrupt international energy supplies, commercial activities and freedom of navigation along key maritime routes connecting the Red Sea, the Gulf region and the wider global economy.

Sierra Leone reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations Charter, respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. It also stressed that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected and that all parties to armed conflicts must comply with international humanitarian law.

The government called on the Houthis to immediately cease attacks against Saudi Arabia, avoid further escalation and respect international law. It also urged parties involved in the conflict in Yemen and the wider regional crisis to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

Reiterating its support for multilateral efforts to resolve the conflict, Sierra Leone backed the work of the United Nations and its Special Envoy for Yemen towards a comprehensive and inclusive political settlement led and owned by Yemenis.

The government further highlighted the importance of protecting international commercial shipping and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, warning that continued instability in these strategic waterways could undermine regional peace, maritime security, international trade and the economies of developing countries.

Sierra Leone said it remained ready to support efforts through the United Nations and other appropriate multilateral mechanisms aimed at de-escalation, regional stability, dialogue and a lasting political settlement in Yemen.
