Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Brima Kamara, has confirmed that a warrant of arrest has been officially issued for former beauty queen and politician Natasha Beckley.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Liberty Online TV, AIG Kamara emphasized that the Sierra Leone Police are committed to ensuring the law takes its full course, regardless of an individual’s status or popularity.
“The police have issued a warrant for Natasha Beckley, and when we access her, we will bring her to court,” he said. “Anyone we issue a warrant for should understand that once we locate them, they will be processed for court.”
AIG Kamara noted that Beckley has the right to present herself to the police to clear her name or provide her side of the story.
“If we see Natasha, or she presents herself to the police, and if it’s satisfactory, the court will look into it,” he added.
He further stressed that the police have credible evidence leading to the current stage of the investigation:
“The fact remains we have our evidence that led us to reach this point,” AIG Kamara said.
Clarifying the judiciary’s role, he explained:
“Leave us with the court. The court and the police will decide on the matter. The court will test the validity of our evidence or how strong our evidence is. That will not be decided by a journalist or the policeman himself.”
He concluded by urging the public to allow due process to prevail and trust the legal system to handle the case fairly and transparently.
