The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, met with the Chief of ASYCUDA at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) as part of her side engagements at the ongoing 31st Session of the UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters in Geneva.

During the meeting, Mr. Renaud Massenet and his team discussed Sierra Leone’s planned ASYCUDA World system upgrade and explored opportunities for capacity building and technical cooperation.

The discussion focused on strengthening customs automation, improving data security, and enhancing technical governance to support efficient and transparent revenue administration.

Mrs. Bangura reaffirmed the NRA’s commitment to digital transformation, emphasizing that modernizing the ASYCUDA platform is central to Sierra Leone’s drive for improved trade facilitation and domestic revenue mobilization.

“Our goal is not only to upgrade a system but to build the technical capacity that sustains it,” she noted.

UNCTAD’s ASYCUDA team commended the NRA’s leadership and expressed readiness to provide continued technical support and staff training.

The meeting was facilitated by the Sierra Leone Mission in Geneva, which reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to advancing customs modernization and digital reforms. Both parties agreed to deepen collaboration and explore donor engagement mechanisms to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.
