A shocking incident has left many people talking after a mother allegedly set fire to her son’s belongings because he decided to pursue a career in music.

According to eyewitnesses in the community, the young man whose name is yet to be disclosed had recently begun showing a strong passion for music, spending much of his time writing songs and recording with friends. However, his mother reportedly disapproved of his choice, insisting that he should focus on education and “something more meaningful” rather than “wasting time chasing music.”

The situation escalated when the mother, in a fit of anger, gathered her son’s musical equipment, clothes, bags, shoes, and other personal items and set them ablaze. Videos and photos of the incident have since circulated on social media, sparking a heated debate about African parental expectations, generational differences, and the value of creative careers.

As one community elder put it, “Times are changing. Music is now a business. Instead of destroying our children’s dreams, we should guide them so they can do it the right way.” The incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing tension between traditional expectations and modern aspirations and the need for more awareness about supporting youth creativity in a changing world.
