The Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) has been officially relaunched today by His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, at the ministry of information, Salone civil Festival openning .On Thursday, 11 December 2025.
The relaunch, which coincides with the National Civic Festival, signals the government’s renewed commitment to strengthening civic participation, ensuring Sierra Leone’s narrative is presented with accuracy, dignity, and global relevance.
Also, a press release was issued by Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA). The relaunch is the culmination of an ambitious transformation agenda spearheaded by Managing Director Lolo Yeama Sarah Thompson-Oguamah, who has successfully rebooted the agency.

Furthermore, the relaunch according to SLENA has been driven by the strategic leadership and support of the Honourable Minister of Information and Civic Education, Mr. Chernor Bah, whose guidance has been central to restoring its position within the national communication architecture.
‘’His stewardship has helped build the foundation for a modern wire service capable of meeting the information needs of citizens, institutions, and international partners.’’ it reads.
The press release further stated that, a significant component of the reform has been digital transformation. SLENA now has a modern website that provides real-time access to national news and reflects the professionalism and mandate of a national wire service.
In addition, the development of a new Strategic Plan has outlined a clear roadmap for institutional growth, innovation, and financial sustainability, while a draft SLENA Policy is under review to strengthen governance, reinforce operational standards, and align the agency with contemporary media development frameworks.
Finally, SLENA is now poised for a new era of public-interest journalism, enhanced national coverage, stronger multimedia production, and deeper integration into regional and global media ecosystems.
