Saa Emerson Lamina Participate in Renewable Energy Round-Table Discussion in Abu Dhabi

Kamara A high-level roundtable discussion on renewable energy and global cooperation has been held at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi, bringing together world leaders, legislators, and regulators to advance the global transition toward inclusive and sustainable renewable energy solutions.
Speaking at the forum, the Deputy Chairman of the Energy and Mines Committee of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina, emphasized the need for strong collaboration between policymakers and regulators to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy worldwide.
Delivering his remarks shortly after the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Her Excellency Madam Memounatou Ibrahima of Togo, Hon. Lamina outlined ECOWAS’ vision for enhanced regional energy interconnectivity across West Africa. He also highlighted Sierra Leone’s national policy direction, which prioritizes the integration of renewable energy across key sectors, including primary healthcare units, schools, gender-focused initiatives, food security programs, and support for smallholder farmers.
In his capacity as Deputy Leader II of Government Business, Hon. Lamina called on international partners and global investors to harness Sierra Leone’s renewable energy potential through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models aimed at boosting investment and business growth in the sector.
He further referenced President Julius Maada Bio’s efforts to transform Sierra Leone’s energy sector, noting that national electricity access has increased from 18 percent in 2018 to 36 percent in 2023, with a target of achieving 80 percent access and affordability by 2028.
The engagement reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to renewable energy development and regional cooperation, reinforcing its role in West Africa’s transition toward a sustainable energy future.
