The Sierra Leone Volleyball Federation (SLVF) has formally presented gold medals won at recent continental competitions to senior sports administrators, in recognition of the athletes’ outstanding achievements on the African stage.
At a ceremony held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the National Sports Authority (NSA) offices, SLVF President Ahmed Kanu presented gold medals earned by Sulaiman Bangura and Alie Kainesie to the Executive Director of the NSA, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai. The medals were won at the 2026 Africa Youth Olympic Qualifiers in Angola.
Commending the athletes, Kanu praised Bangura and Kainesie for representing Sierra Leone with distinction, describing their performances as a source of national pride and a testament to the country’s growing presence in continental volleyball.
In a separate ceremony, the SLVF also presented Sierra Leone’s Beach Volleyball gold medallists from the African Youth Games to the President of the Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee (NOC), Prince Vandy Sualley.
The presentation recognized the athletes’ exceptional performance and highlighted the qualification opportunities their success has opened for future international competitions.
Speaking on the federation’s broader vision, Ahmed Kanu said medal-winning athletes form a central part of the SLVF’s structured high-performance pathway under the project “Operation Podium Finish – Dakar 2026.”
He emphasized that the initiative is designed to consolidate recent gains, strengthen athlete development, and position Sierra Leonean volleyball players for podium finishes at upcoming continental events.
